Healthy Attitude!
Monday Strength- as I was running errands today I noticed a little guy on my window shield. At first I thought it was an ordinary grasshopper. Then I began thinking how this grasshopper was very brave and strong to be able to hold on to my windshield. I was amazed at how he rooted down and stood strong as if he landed on my car like a hood ornament- like it was all part of his plan for his Monday. He or She….left me thinking about 9
I parked purposively near a tree- in a sea of a cement parking lot. When I got out to take a closer look I was amazed that this wasn’t a grasshopper or anything I had ever seen up close. I’m a city girl- although I have seen a praying mantis before and I thought that was so exciting. Well…exciting because I am a mother of 3 boys and a girl that doesn’t seem to mind bugs. This had wings that looked like leaves! Maybe everyone else has seen this type of bug- but not this city girl!
After the “photo shoot” I went into the grocery store and I kept thinking about this wonder bug. A few years ago I felt BAD. Not just a little bad but scared BAD….the kind when nobody can diagnose you until you see LOTS DOCTORS bad. It takes a lot of strength to do that- and determination.
Keys Points to Feeling Better:
- Being open minded to alternative treatments
- Thinking of ways to relax
- Carving out time in your overwhelming schedule
- Developing new hobbies
- Nurturing new habits
- Researching
- Organization
- Spending time with loving friends
- Remaining positive
Being open-minded:
There are so many alternative treatment options out there. Some are really OUT-THERE and some are more traditional like chirporatic, massage and accupunture. Within those areas alone there are hundreds of ideas and methods. I had no idea until I felt bad…there are sooo many methods within those. There is also less known methods like NAET (Natural Allergy Elimination Technique) . Whatever method you come across- be open-minded about it. If you don’t notice a difference… ANY difference then stop and think about another option. BUT if you are not open-minded then nothing will work.
Thinking of new ways to relax:
If one more person says that it is all stress related- you will want to scream! But remember- they are not you and only you know what you feel like. And….. nobody will take as much care for YOU than YOU. So think of creative ways to relax either by taking a walk outside, window shopping, having lunch with a friend, watching a movie you love. Schedules can be hectic- so make an appointment with yourself. Relax it is important!
Carving out time in your schedule:
It can appear there is not enough time in the day…while at the same time…. seeming that there are too many hours in the day. Learn to say NO- practice it NO-No-No- Noooooo. If you can’t give something your best effort then pass until you have regained your strength. Give it your best yes. If your answer is no- stick to it and don’t feel like you need to give a long explanation. Now… think about your week and the things that you must do, things that you feel like you should but don’t really get anything out of them. You need more unscheduled time and that is hard to do. You can always go back to your favorite Pilates Class, Reading Shift etc… you may love it but when you feel better! Carving out time in your schedule is key!
Developing new hobbies:
Make sure you have an answer that does not involve any of your immediate family members! That does not count! As much as you love your family they are not a hobby! Developing new hobbies can seem difficult but if you are not sure search the web- watch You Tube videos for things you have always wanted to do. Many people take up a craft they never imagined actually doing once they are committed to healing and feeling better.
Nurturing new habits:
It can takes weeks to form a new habit. Going cold-turkey on a diet usually fails because it is too hard. Eating is social so it is more than just eating. Nurturing a new habit means starting slow, growing from there and then realizing you are benefiting from it and want to continue with it. For clean eating I usually suggest starting with a basic like drinking cleaner water, tossing out salad dressings and making your own or tossing out all boxed cereals- especially if they are enriched, non organic….etc… there is a long list on that one.
Researching:
The internet is a great and useful tool… as long as you do not obsess! You tube has some great information- one that I usually recommend for those that are starting out on eating clean is watching Dr. Axe on You-Tube. He is friendly, knowledgeable and lays down suggestions SIMPLY!! Find a few sites and channels/podcasts that you enjoy listening to. There are so many more ways that researching can actually be fun. Okay…maybe not but it was for me.
Organization:
BIG DEAL here folks! Get a planner or use your phone. You will want to be able to answer questions about your health. Did you feel bad around the same time each month, after eating a certain food? Food intolerances may not be instant- they can trigger reactions even days later. Have your medical history organized…. and yes yes.. always ask for a copy of your labs. ALWAYS. I can’t stress organization enough. It has two benefits- informational and you are just pleased as punch because you are more efficient.
Spending time with loving friends:
LOVING FRIENDS- not the other kind. Enough said on that one! 🙂
Remaining positive:
You really don’t have another option here… but so that I put a positive spin on it… I have seen and talked to soooo many people that can’t believe how much better they feel in a few weeks of eating clean. Amazing.. I can’t believe it… Why doesn’t everyone else eat this way??…I feel so much better…. that is what I hear. And…. then they make a commitment to helping others feel better because they remember what it is like to feel HORRIBLE and now they feel AMAZING!
