Less Stress and Homework?
Do those go together? Well in my house that’s a good day FOR SURE! As these guys get older the homework load grows with them. This is when I say “their homework keeps my mind young”. Without these never ending assignments my math skills may dwindle, my editing skills would get even worse and my creativity would grow a smaller shadow.
Here are a few quick tips on things that make homework easier in our home.
1). Have a snack set out before they get home. Protein and water and a tiny tiny reward to say good job bud!
Healthier Chocolate Chip Cookies
Protein Ideas:
- Turkey Bacon (Wellshire Farms is the brand we use- they have a Paleo Version also!)
- Almond Butter on a spoon with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of sea salt (I personally love this!)
- Turkey Roll Up with a Pickle (my little guy loves the tang of a pickle and the energy of protein!)
2). Have two designated “work areas”- one with soft music and the other quiet . We love our Amazon Echo– handy for music or for any questions that we ponder together.
3). Have a diffuser with scents that promote thinking- Stress Away, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Lavender and Peace & Calming. Or let them pick the blend of the day!
4). Routine is key- whatever that may be for your home: (set routine with the above 1-2-3 steps and then consider when is the best time for your child to focus)
- Play with friends first
- 30 minutes wind down time
- Later start? Some are “night owls”…. so consider starting after dinner
- Allow for grace days when you child needs some extra room and play on a more challenged day.
That’s it!! Children thrive off of structure and so do parents.
